Vaillant, De Dietrich, Panasonic, Daikin or Mitsubishi: which heat pump is best?
We have been installing aerothermal heat pump systems in the Alt Empordà for over a decade. Our honest conclusion: there is no perfect brand for everyone. Here is our updated ranking and the reasons behind it.
🥇 Vaillant — best overall quality, premium price justified
🥈 De Dietrich — excellent performance, official SAT in Vilasacra (FIC Empordà)
🥉 Panasonic — best quality/price ratio on the market
4️⃣ Daikin — solid but no clear differentiating advantage in our area
5️⃣ Mitsubishi Electric — reliable, but aimed at larger installations
🥇 1st place: Vaillant — Premium quality, justified price

Vaillant offers the most complete and sophisticated residential aerothermal range in Europe. The aroTHERM plus series combines exceptional energy efficiency, silent operation down to -20 °C, and seamless integration with its sensoCOMFORT controller.
- SCOP up to 5.1 — among the highest in the category
- Compact premium design
- Gas+heat pump hybrid system available as standard
- Full connectivity: app, smart home, dynamic tariffs
The only real downside is the price — 15–25 % more than an equivalent De Dietrich. If budget allows, Vaillant is the answer.
🥈 2nd place: De Dietrich — Technical excellence and local SAT in Vilasacra

De Dietrich takes second place with a decisive local advantage: the official technical service is in Vilasacra, managed by FIC Empordà.
FIC Empordà — Vilasacra (Alt Empordà)
Certified technicians. Fast response. Original spare parts in stock. 20 minutes away makes a huge difference when something breaks in winter.
🥉 3rd place: Panasonic — Best quality/price ratio

Panasonic Aquarea is extraordinarily reliable, the most affordable of the five, and has an enviable long-term durability record. Simple mechanics mean fewer breakdowns and lower maintenance costs.
4th place: Daikin — Solid brand, no local advantage

Daikin is well known in air conditioning but in residential aerothermal it lacks Vaillant's efficiency, De Dietrich's local SAT, and Panasonic's price. The official Daikin service centre is farther away from the Alt Empordà.
5th place: Mitsubishi Electric — Reliable, aimed at larger systems

Mitsubishi Electric's Ecodan range is robust and very reliable, but its positioning and price lean towards larger or more complex installations rather than standard residential homes.

FAQ
Is Vaillant worth the higher price?
Yes, if budget allows. The SCOP of 5.1 shows on the electricity bill and its hybrid system is the most mature on the market.
Is De Dietrich better than Panasonic?
Technically similar, but the local SAT in Vilasacra is a clear differentiator for Alt Empordà residents.
When do you recommend Mitsubishi Electric?
Large homes, commercial installations, or clients who already use the brand across other systems and want a single-brand solution.
What grants are available?
In Catalonia the MOVES programme and ICAEN grants can cover 30–70 % of installation cost. We guide you through the whole process.
