The main objection to underfloor heating in renovations is the floor height increase. With current low-profile systems (20–35 mm), it can be installed in most renovations.
When viable: when replacing the floor, when ceiling height allows (+3 cm) and when installing a heat pump.
When NOT recommended: if the floor is not being replaced, if ceiling height is critical, or if keeping a gas/oil boiler.
Cost: hydronic underfloor heating: €35–€55/m² (labour + materials, without floor covering). For 120 m²: €4,200–€6,600.
